LUCERNE VALLEY — The Lucerne Valley Lions Club Shooting Range was transformed into an image straight out of the Old West on April 16.
More than 120 members of the Single Action Shooting Society — from all over Southern California and beyond — dressed up in all manner of garb from the mid- to-late-1800s. And all were packing vintage or period correct replicas of the firearms of the day.
The Double R Bar Regulators, which is a member of the Single Action Shooting Society, held its annual two-day event at the club facilities.
The group was started decades ago by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Proceeds from the event went to the Happy Trails Children's Foundation, which provides funding for children in need.
Over the weekend, participants competed in numerous stages using pistols, riles and shotguns.
Ed Boyd, who serves as president of the Double R Bar Regulators, was emcee of the event. He and his wife Jo live in Apple Valley.
